Description:

Grade I winner Lea worked four furlongs in :49 3/5 on the main track at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 2 in preparation for the Aug. 8, $1.25 million Whitney Stakes (gr. I) that will be televised on NBC.

The Whitney is a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "Win & You're In" race for the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I).

Trained by Bill Mott for breeders Claiborne Farm and Adele Delschneider, the 6-year-old son of First Samurai   will be seeking his eighth victory in his 17th start and looks to improve on his $1.9 million in earnings. In his most recent effort, Lea finished second to Noble Bird by neck in Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) June 13 at Churchill Downs.

"He was good; he was very good," Mott said. "He worked normal, kind of what we expected and wanted. It's all we were looking for, real smooth. He's still on track for the Whitney. That's the plan."

Whitney post positions will be drawn at 6 p.m. EDT Aug. 4.
