Shared Belief Still Healing in Northwest

Continuing his recovery from a hip fracture at Pegasus Equine Rehabilitation and Training Center in Redmond, Wash., Shared Belief still doesn't have a timetable for a return to racing, according to part owner and bloodstock agent Jason Litt.
The champion 2-year-old colt of 2013 and five-time grade I winner has been handwalking in the Northwest, but still has significant rehab to undergo following his injury during the April 18 Charles Town Classic (gr. II). The Classic was his first race outside of California.

"He's going in the right direction and healing up nicely," Litt said. "There's no timetable. We're going to do everything we can to give him the best shot to come back. If that's six months or one year, that's what it will be."
Litt is upbeat about Shared Belief's eventual return, but couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to take on American Pharoah later this year.
"It would be fun to be around right now, to get a shot at American Pharaoh (in the Breeders' Cup Classic)," Litt said. "But we're going to do what's best for the horse."
Litt described the gelding's connections as "guarded" regarding speculation over the 4-year-old son of Candy Ride 's future, but remained optimistic.
"His prognosis is excellent, but we've been involved in racing long enough to be superstitious, because we know what can happen in this game," Litt said. "We're just not going to give a target at this point, like, 'We're pointing to next year's Breeders' Cup.' We're guarded because things go wrong all the time."
