Grade II winner Wildcat Red, who returned to winning form in the $100,000 Teddy Drone Stakes Aug. 2 at Monmouth Park, is scheduled to race next in the $700,000 Forego Stakes (gr. I) Aug. 29 at Saratoga Race Course.
Trainer Jose Garoffalo returned to Gulfstream Park this week to tend to his stable, but the 4-year-old son of D'wildcat has remained at Monmouth and is slated to move to Saratoga in a couple weeks to prepare for the seven-furlong race.
"He's back. He is back in perfect shape," Garoffalo said of grade I-placed Wildcat Red. "He's going to the Forego. I think it's the best distance for him. It's going to be a tough race, but I think seven-eighths is his best distance."
Wildcat Red, who finished third in the Smile Sprint (gr. II) at Gulfstream July 5 off a six-month layoff, battled between horses in deep stretch to win the six-furlong Teddy Drone by a head under Paco Lopez. The Honors Stable Corp.'s colt became a millionaire with a hard-fought victory worth $60,000.
"I'm really happy that he is back in shape after a hard campaign of about a year-and-a-half. He showed he has a lot of class," Garoffalo said. "I'm going to keep him at short distances now. He gained a lot of weight and more muscle. He looks like a sprinter."
