Paramount Prince , Canada's champion 3-year-old male of 2023 and champion older main track male of 2024, seeks to win the Seagram Cup (G3) for the second year in a row Aug. 2. The CA$150,000 race for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/16 miles is over his preferred synthetic surface, the Tapeta at Woodbine.
The Mark Casse-trained 5-year-old gelding by Society's Chairman races for owners Michael Langlois and Gary Barber. In 2024, Paramount Prince earned three wins in six starts, including the Dominion Day Stakes (G3) and Seagram Cup at Woodbine. The previous year, he won the prestigious King's Plate there.
Saturday's race is Paramount Prince's second start of the year following a third in an allowance optional claiming race on turf in June.
Casse also starts Swift Deliver for Barber and co-owners Team Valor International, Bruce Zoldan, Steven Rocco, and Travis Kelce—the star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. Swift Delivery has one win in three starts in 2025, taking his most recent race June 22 in an allowance optional claimer at Woodbine.
Dresden Row beat Swift Delivery and others in the 2024 Ontario Derby (G3) to earn his second graded stakes victory. The Seagram Cup will mark Dresden Row's second start in 2025 after a comeback third in the June 28 Highlander Stakes (G2) in a shorter contest on grass. He is 5-for-7 on the Woodbine main track.
