Mullikin Leaving Sagamore Racing Position

Description:

Sagamore Racing announced Aug. 10 that general manager Tom Mullikin is leaving the operation to pursue other opportunities in the Thoroughbred industry.

Mullikin, who has led Sagamore Racing since the farm was purchased by Kevin Plank in 2007, has overseen both major capital improvements and the growth of the widely respected equine operation.

"Tom Mullikin has been a great partner for me and a true steward of Sagamore Farm," Plank said. "Under his leadership, we have resurrected one of Maryland's greatest assets."

Notable successes in Mullikin's tenure have included Shared Account's victory in the 2010 Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT), more than 25 stakes horses, multiple graded stakes winners, leading the Maryland-bred fund in 2012, selecting the breeding for and managing Maryland-bred champions Walkwithapurpose and Daring Dancer, starting runners in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I), Belmont Stakes (gr. I) and Coronation Stakes (Eng-I), generating more than $6 million in race earnings, and leading the restoration of an internationally renowned and historic farm back to world-class standing.

"I will be forever grateful to Kevin for the opportunities he provided to me and my family at Sagamore. I am also thankful for the great people in the Sagamore program throughout the years, notably Bob Feld, Graham Motion, Ignacio Correas and Dan Rosenberg, who helped rebuild Sagamore from the ground up and who have helped set the table for future success," Mullikin said. "Beyond the success of the stable, I am equally proud of Sagamore's efforts in community outreach, environmental conservation, and improving the quality of life for the farm staff."
