In her first start since finishing fourth in the Coronation Stakes (Eng-I) June 19 at Royal Ascot, stakes winner Miss Temple City will try to nail down her first graded score in the $300,000 Maker's Mark Lake Placid Stakes (gr. IIT) Friday, Aug. 14 at Saratoga Race Course.
Trainer Graham Motion shipped Miss Temple City across the Atlantic after the daughter of Temple City scored a clear victory in the Hilltop Stakes May 15 on the Pimlico Race Course turf. Sagamore Farm, Allen Rosenblum, and The Club Racing's Miss Temple City also has placed in a pair of graded stakes this season.
"She's doing great," Motion said. "I wasn't in a hurry to run her. She's had two months, so I think that should be fine. It's a tough trip coming back. We have to go to Amsterdam to fly back to the States. It makes for a long trip."
Motion, who won the 2009 Lake Placid with Sagamore's Shared Account, praised the effort of Miss Temple City in the Coronation, where she was sent off at odds of 50-1 in her fourth start this year.
"She got beat two lengths against the best fillies in Europe. It's a shame that it set up a little awkwardly," Motion said. "She just didn't settle early because she was kind of hung out on the outside. It's a little awkward the way you come out of a chute into a straightaway there, and what you don't realize unless you're there is you go a quarter of a mile and then it's uphill all the way to the wire. It's grueling."
Friday's 1 1/8-mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies has drawn six entries, including a pair of stakes winners for trainer Chad Brown in Consumer Credit and Strict Compliance.
Brous Stable, Gary Barber, and Wachtel Stable's Consumer Credit has won a pair of stakes this year, including the Sweetest Chant Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream Park and the daughter of More Than Ready placed third in the American Oaks (gr. IT) at Santa Anita Park.
Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence's Strict Compliance won this year's Penn Oaks at Penn National Race Course and the daughter of Into Mischief enters off a fourth in the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (gr. IT) at Belmont Park.
