Near the end of the final session of The Saratoga Sale, Fasig-Tipton's select yearling sale, John Stewart's Resolute Bloodstock went to $3 million for a son of Spendthrift Farm's Into Mischief . The colt consigned as Hip 178 by Gainesway, agent for Stonestreet Bred for Brilliance, is the second foal of the stakes-winning, grade 1-placed Bernardini mare Lady Kate .
This was the fifth purchase of the sale by Resolute with total sales of $5.425 million. The colt was bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings.
"I've only bought five (so far); I got three colts and two fillies right now," Stewart said. "I really liked (Hip) 163 (an Into Mischief colt), but Spendthrift was buying him back. But I really liked this one as well. Anytime you see a horse that is Stonestreet-bred, it's a top horse. Barbara (Banke) does a great job. We're looking for good two-turn colts and you can't beat Into Mischief, so we are pretty happy.
"You can see all of these Into Mischiefs and Gun Runners and Not This Times are bringing good money at the sale as they should."
Brian Graves, general manager of Gainesway, said the traffic was hot at Barn 6 on the sales grounds to see the Into Mischief colt.
"You know this colt showed a higher number of times than any horse we had here," Graves said. "An Into Mischief out of a young Bernardini mare, a second foal, same cross as Sovereignty. You know, he was loved by all.
"We were thinking that he could bring a couple million. It got hot in there tonight, and, you know, I think he was a deserving horse to top the sale if that is the way it turns out."
The Into Mischief colt is 9-year-old's Lady Kate's second foal. As a racehorse, Lady Kate was a winner of five of 17 starts for earnings of $420,070. Her first foal, Storming, is an unraced Curlin colt. This year, Lady Kate gave birth to an Uncle Mo filly.
Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings purchased Lady Kate from the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Mixed Sale for $1,150,000 million. Paramount Sales was the consignor.
"I'd say Stonestreet is the pinnacle of breeders in this industry," Graves said. "Another sale topper for them. Well-deserved. You know they buy the best mares, they do their homework, and they put the most quality product out for the buyers. What can you say, they deserve all the credit."
