The excitement leading up to Fasig-Tipton's The Saratoga Sale each year is second to none. It comes on the heels of Whitney Stakes (G1) weekend where the top runners in the handicap division vie for one of the sport's most historic prizes. And it routinely boasts a catalog filled with remarkable pedigrees, proven sires, and plenty of eye-catching physical specimens—everything needed to produce a top-class racehorse.
This year is no different as several yearlings offered are out of grade 1-winning mares. Here are four of the yearlings expected to be most in demand:
Hip 38—Not This Time filly out of American Gal
Consigned by Gainesway, agent, Hip 38 is a bay filly by Taylor Made stallion Not This Time , out of the multiple grade 1 winner American Gal . The daughter of Concord Point won the 2017 Test Stakes (G1) at age 3 and the 2018 Humana Distaff Stakes (G1) at 4. She finished on the board in seven of her nine career starts, retiring with $912,480 in earnings for owner and breeder Kaleem Shah.
She sold to Whisper Hill Farm at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton November Sale for $3 million. She is the dam of two foals of racing age including Vanderbilt , who ran second behind Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) runner-up and Blue Grass Stakes (G1) third River Thames in a maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park Jan. 11. The son of Into Mischief sold for $1.1 million at the 2023 Keeneland September Sale to Grandview Equine.
Hip 38 was bred in Kentucky by Whisper Hill Farm.
Hip 118-Flightline colt out of Hot Dixie Chick
Hip 118, consigned by Gainesway, agent for Stonestreet Bred For Brilliance, is a colt from the first crop of 2022 Horse of the Year Flightline , a $1 million Saratoga Sale graduate himself in 2021, out of grade 1 winner Hot Dixie Chick .
Winner of the 2009 Spinaway Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course for owners Grace Stables and trainer Steve Asmussen, Hot Dixie Chick was a $435,000 2-year-old purchase in 2009 by Grace Stables at Fasig-Tipton's Florida Select 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. At 3, she would win the Prima Donna Stakes at Oaklawn Park before finishing third in both the Eight Belles (G3) and Winning Colors Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs.
Just as she enjoyed top-level success as a racehorse, Hot Dixie Chick has also done so as a producer. She is the dam of multiple graded stakes winner Pauline's Pearl , a daughter of Tapit who scored her biggest victory when she annexed the 2022 La Troienne Stakes (G1). Pauline's Pearl would hit the board in 14 of her 20 career starts, earning $2.1 million for owner and breeder Stonestreet Stables.
Hot Dixie Chick is also the dam of stakes winner Union Jackson and stakes placed Marsalis . Hip 118 was bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings.

Hip 163-Into Mischief colt out of I'm a Chatterbox
Warrendale Sales consigns Hip 163 on behalf of Spendthrift Farm and Grayson Farm—an Into Mischief colt out of three-time grade 1 winner I'm a Chatterbox. Triumphant in the 2015 Cotillon Stakes (G1) at Parx for trainer Larry Jones, the daughter of Munnings returned for a 4-year-old campaign that featured victories in the 2016 Delaware Handicap (G1) and Spinster Stakes (G1) at Keeneland. She was a homebred for Carolyn and Fletcher Gray and retired with $2.3 million in earnings.
Hip 118 was bred in Kentucky by the Grays and Spendthrift Farm. The colt's full sister, now named Bad Manners, brought $700,000 during last year's Saratoga Sale, selling to Spendthrift Farm. She is in training in California with Hall of Famer Richard Mandella, where she has been working steadily towards her first start.
I'm a Chatterbox has also produced Juniper's Moon , a mare by Galileo , who was third in the 2023 Florida Oaks (G3T).
"He's been very busy," Kitty Day, owner of Warrendale Sales, said of the colt. "We have a really solid group of horses up here, but he's just a special horse. Physically, when you see him, he takes your breath away. He is just the whole package.
"He's a very confident horse, which is an interesting thing to say about a horse," Day continued. "The first time I saw him was at the farm, and he came out and stood up; he had never seen me before, a lot of times when you approach a horse that doesn't know you, they react. There was no reaction, he's very classy."
Hip 175-Gun Runner filly out of Paradise Woods
Hip 175 is the first foal offered at auction out of multiple grade 1 winner Paradise Woods . The Gun Runner filly is consigned by Lane's End, agent for Tranquility Lake Farms. Paradise Woods raced for Martin and Pam Wygod and HS Stable, winning five races under the tutelage of Richard Mandella. The daughter of Union Rags won the 2017 Santa Anita Oaks (G1) and Zenyatta Stakes (G1) en route to finishing third in that year's Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1). Paradise Woods came back at age 4 to win two grade 2 races, retiring with $1.1 million in earnings.
Second on the leading sire list behind the breed-shaping Into Mischief, Gun Runner had another successful weekend with his champion son Sierra Leone taking the Whitney Stakes (G1), a race Gun Runner himself won in 2017.
"She's probably been the most popular horse at our consignment," said Lane's End's sales director Allaire Ryan of Hip 175. "She's the type that can be standing out on a ring and someone can see her from three barns over and say 'Who is that?'. She just has that kind of presence and physique about her."
About being the first foal by Paradise Woods offered to the public, Ryan said: "It kind of makes her a special collector's item, if you will. The mare has a very nice Gun Runner colt by her side, and she was bred back to Flightline. It's a young, producing family with a lot of upside to come in the next few years.
"She (Hip 175) is just really special, I don't know how else to put it. She's big, she's strong. She has a really powerful, fluid walk, and a very strong mental constitution as well."
The filly was bred in Kentucky by the Wygods and Oliver and Emily Bushnell.
