American Pharoah Takes Back Top Spot in World’s Best Racehorse Rankings

After being dethroned from the top spot in the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings in July, American Pharoah took back that spot from Golden Horn on Thursday when the latest ratings were released.
American Pharoah jumped from the 128 rating he was given after winning the Triple Crown in June to 131 after his Haskell Invitational victory. This is the third time this year an American has led the rankings with Shared Belief holding the top spot in the first rankings of the year.
Even though he is currently out of training, Shared Belief is tied with Hong Kong-trainee Able Friend in the third spot on a 125 rating. Other notable American who moved up in the ratings this month is Honor Code, who advanced from a 120 to a 123 rating after his Whitney victory to move into the top 10.
Firing Line is still sitting tied with two others on a 122 rating in the 14th spot. California Chrome is rated 121, tied with European superstars Cirrus Des Aigles and Dolniya among others in the 17th spot. Dortmund, Main Sequence and Undrafted round out U.S. runners with ratings at 120 or above, all tied at that 120 mark.
The next round of World’s Best Racehorse rankings come out on Sept. 10 and both American Pharoah and Golden Horn are expected to run again by the end of August.
