Betting the Beverly D. on a Budget

A field of 10 fillies and mares will line up for the 26th running of the Beverly D. at Arlington Park this Saturday, where the top two finishers from last year’s edition meet up once again as Stephanie’s Kitten will try to run the tables on Euro Charline. The usual mix of invaders from across the country and across the world make this race one of the most intriguing events on Arlington Million day.
In addition to Stephanie's Kitten, trainer Chad Brown also brings Watsdachances (#2) who was last seen finishing second by a head in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes at Woodbine. This will be only her third start of the year and I think she will fire a big effort. She ran too good to lose last time out and has been training well since that last race.
Another one of my main picks is the invader Carla Bianca (#6) who was last seen winning the Grade 3 Meld Stakes at Leopardstown. She is a perfect 2-for-2 when racing at the Beverly D. distance and has won five of her last seven races. With not a lot of speed in the field, I think she can be forwardly placed early on.
On top of my trifecta play I will also use Secret Gesture (#10). She made the trip to Santa Anita last November for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf where she finished a decent fifth beaten only two lengths. She has plenty of experience at today’s distance and her tracking style of running should have her in a great position throughout.
