Classic Runners Back for More in Breeders'

Description:

Danish Dynaformer, runner-up in the Queen's Plate, and Prince of Wales Stakes winner Breaking Lucky take to the turf Aug. 16 for the $500,000 Breeders' Stakes at Woodbine. The 12-furlong turf test is the third leg of the Canadian Triple Crown for 3-year-olds. The race drew a field of nine Canadian-breds.

Shaman Ghost, the Queen's Plate winner, ran second to Breaking Lucky by a neck in the Prince of Wales, the second jewel of the crown. Shaman Ghost is not entered in the Breeders' Stakes.

Danish Dynaformer, bred and raced by Charles Fipke and trained by eight-time Breeders' Stakes-winning trainer Roger Attfield, made his first three career starts on the turf. He broke his maiden second time out in February at Gulfstream Park and won an entry-level allowance race at Keeneland. From the last crop of Dynaformer, Danish Dynaformer was second in the Queen's Plate on Polytrack, then was sixth, beaten seven lengths, in his dirt debut in the Prince of Wales. A return to turf and an additional quarter-mile figures to put him in the thick of things.

Breaking Lucky is from Reade Baker's barn and races for Tom Keithley's Gunpowder Farms. From the initial crop of two-time champion and classic winner Lookin At Lucky  , Breaking Lucky was fifth in the Queen's Plate in his stakes debut, then rallied from sixth to win the 1 3/16-mile Prince of Wales at Fort Erie.

"We were a bit too early in the Plate and were only beaten by four lengths," Baker said. "He's been an improving horse. He never raced at 2, so when he started late in the spring at Gulfstream, he got beat a long ways."

The Sovereign Award-winning Baker added, "It takes some time to learn things and get along with things, so I was not at all discouraged with those starts."

Trainer Mark Casse has a pair for the Breeders' Stakes in Conquest Stables' Conquest Boogaloo (by Scat Daddy  ) and John Oxley's Field of Courage (by Marchfield). Conquest Boogaloo has made all five of his 2015 starts in stakes company with mixed success, and was third last year in the Cup and Saucer Stakes on the turf. Field of Courage was beaten two necks by Breaking Lucky and Shaman Ghost in the Prince of Wales.

Augustin Stable's Lucky Lindy, second in the Toronto Cup on the turf last time out seems to be moving forward and merits consideration. The son of Harlan's Holiday is a half brother to grade III winner Occasional View. Lucky Lindy is out of Celebrate, a half sister to champion and Queen's Plate winner Archers Bay.

Canyon Farms' Ault and Hillsbrook Farms' Olympic Bid come into the Breeders' Stakes as maidens.
