Sovereignty breezes Aug. 9 over the Oklahoma Training Track at Saratoga Race Course

The leading 10 horses are unchanged in the latest National Thoroughbred Racing Association Top Thoroughbred Poll following a week of stakes action in which none of the top-ranked horses raced. Voting from week 29 of the poll followed racing performances through Aug. 10.

Remaining in first is Godolphin's star 3-year-old colt, Sovereignty —a winner of four graded stakes this year, including the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1). He leads over a pair of 4-year-olds: second-ranked Mindframe , unbeaten in three graded stakes starts this year, and Sierra Leone , the 2024 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner who captured the Whitney Stakes (G1) earlier this month.

Sovereignty received 17 first-place votes, picking up two more votes than during the preceding week. Mindframe and Sierra Leone received eight and three first-place votes, respectively. The only other horse to receive a first-place vote was reigning Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna , who is ranked fifth, just behind Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Journalism  in fourth. The latter is ahead of Thorpedo Anna due to scoring higher across all submitted ballots.

The NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll, voting for which is conducted by national media, represents horses competing for Horse of the Year. The Top Thoroughbred Poll concludes Nov. 4, a few days after the two-day Breeders' Cup World Championships this fall at Del Mar.

The full poll and votes by voter can be found online.
