Weigh the Risks Faces Tough Casse Quartet in Seaway

Klaravich Stables' Weigh the Risks  goes for her first black-type victory when she ships to Canada for the CA$150,000 Seaway Stakes (G3) at Woodbine. While the United States invader exits an eye-popping allowance win at Saratoga Race Course, she'll have to contend with a formidable quartet of locals from Hall of Famer Mark Casse's barn.

Trained by Chad Brown—who has won with 24% of his last 922 shippers, according to BRIS—Weigh the Risks will be making her synthetic debut in Saturday's seven-furlong Seaway. The 4-year-old daughter of Mendelssohn   has raced on the dirt since November 2024 after racing primarily on the turf to start her career. Weigh the Risks is 2-for-3 this year, with her only loss coming in a runner-up finish in the one-mile Heavenly Prize Invitational Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack. She bounced back with a front-running 7 3/4-length romp going seven panels July 23 at the Spa, netting a 100 Equibase Speed Figure for her performance.

If Weigh the Risks chooses to make a dash for the lead, she'll have to outbattle two serious speed horses to her inside in the Casse-trained duo of Olivia Rose  (post 7) and Stormcast , who breaks from the inside post. Both runners exit front-running stakes tallies over the Woodbine Tapeta strip, although Stormcast must overcome a 9 1/2-month layoff Saturday.

Casse also starts last year's Seaway heroine Ticker Tape Home  and 2023 Woodbine Oaks winner Elysian Field .
