Sovereignty wins the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association Top Thoroughbred Poll largely remained unchanged following last week's racing action, with Godolphin's Sovereignty  maintaining his first-place position following his 10-length romp in the Aug. 23 Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course.

The only deviation among the top 10-ranked horses was a slight advance from Forego Stakes (G1) winner Book'em Danno , who rose from seventh to sixth in the rankings, relegating Nysos  from sixth to seventh.

Sovereignty widened his lead in week 31 of the poll—covering racing performances through Aug. 24—grabbing 24 first-place votes, up from 18 last week. Four-year-olds Mindframe  and Thorpedo Anna  were the only two other horses to gain first-place votes, receiving five and one, respectively.

Thorpedo Anna, the reigning Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old filly of 2024, was a head-bobbing nose winner over Dorth Vader  in the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) at Saratoga on Travers day.

Nysos is scheduled to be one of the favorites at Del Mar in the Aug. 30 Pacific Classic (G1), a 1 1/4-mile test that will be the longest race of his career.
