After scratching Anthony Fanticola and Joseph Scardino's Obviously from the Aug. 23 Del Mar Mile Handicap (gr. IIT), trainer Phil D'Amato said the 7-year-old gelding is doing just fine. The reason for the scratch was simply a change of plans.
With the two-time grade I winner eyeing a Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) attempt for the fourth time, Obviously's connections have elected to run in the $1 million Ricoh Woodbine Mile (Can-IT) Sept. 13, a Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" race. He was scheduled to be the 124-pound highweight in what turned out to be a quality Del Mar Mile field.

"He's doing fine," D'Amato said. "Why not take a chance? He's been doing so well, why not gamble a little bit with a million dollar 'Win and You're In' race at equal weights? Because we've started late this year, the owners are OK with shipping around a bit to take a shot."
D'Amato said Obviously will breeze six furlongs on the Del Mar turf course Sunday.
