Scottish Lassie Half Brother on Offer in Book 3

Despite the current crop of sophomore fillies being a competitive group since their juvenile debuts last year, Scottish Lassie  holds the exclusive distinction to be the lone female member of the crop to win a grade 1 in North America at both 2 and 3. Last year's Frizette Stakes (G1) winner and recent Coaching Club American Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1) winner is now taking her aim at a third top-level triumph Sept. 20 in the Cotillion Stakes (G1) at Parx Racing.

Although that prospect carries much excitement, as the McKinzie   filly hopes to keep her name in the conversation for divisional honors at year's end, her family will first have an exciting stop at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale Sept. 13.

On offer from the Paramount Sales consignment as Book 3 kicks off is a Corniche   half brother to Scottish Lassie, consigned as Hip 1442.

"We are delighted to be offering Hip 1442 on behalf of the breeders Winchester Farm, Dr. Naoya and Marie Yoshida," said Paramount's Lesley Campion. "He is a powerful, wonderfully balanced colt with a deep hip and huge stride."

Both the colt and Scottish Lassie are out of the winning Bodemeister  mare Bodebabe , a half sister to stakes winner Windmill (Street Sense  ) and stakes-placed Ignitis (Nyquist  ).

Scottish Lassie was the second foal to race out of Bodebabe with the first, Take Charge Indy   filly Take Charge Babe , being a two-time winner. Additionally, Bodebabe's 2-year-old filly, Scot's Law, is entered for her career debut Sept. 17 at Churchill Downs for trainer John Ortiz.

Since the catalog was printed, Bodebabe's half sister, Feisty Tomboy, had her 2-year-old Yaupon   colt, Crown the Buckeye , win the Best of Ohio Cleveland Kindergarten Stakes at Thistledown by 12 1/4 lengths.

"The family is fantastically active," Campion said. "The page, the physical, and the potential set this colt apart and we are very pleased with the way he has been received two days in to showing at barn 9."

The colt is out of the first yearling crop of 2021 champion 2-year-old male, Corniche. Winner of the American Pharoah Stakes (G1) and Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) that year, the son of Quality Road   is out of the six-time graded stakes winner Wasted Tears  (Najran).

Standing at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in the 2025 season for a fee of $15,000, Corniche had six yearlings enter the ring through the first two Keeneland books, selling for a total of $3.16 million. His offerings were topped by Hip 777, a colt out of the placed Uncle Mo mare Kiss Mo , who sold to Speedway Stables for $725,000 out of the Havens Bloodstock Agency consignment.
