Grandview Equine and Lee and Susan Searing of C R K Stable have a high-class 3-year-old in the John Shirreffs-trained Baeza , the morning-line favorite for the Sept. 20 Pennsylvania Derby (G1) at Parx Racing.

C R K Stable has a talented 2-year-old colt this year, as well. On Sept. 19 at Churchill Downs, C R K Stable unveiled Englishman , who sparkled on debut in scoring by 7 1/4 lengths over maiden special weight foes, sizzling seven furlongs in 1:21.35 under Jose Ortiz. A bay son of Darley's first-crop sire Maxfield  , he outsprinted the twice-raced Saratoga Race Course shipper Tagermeen  to the lead, shaking him off through fractions of :22.27 and :44.74 before drawing away. The winner's six-furlong split was 1:08.70.

Another first-time starter, White Tiger , rallied to catch Tagermeen, a $1.4 million 2-year-old purchase earlier this year, for the runner-up spot.

Coming off a series of fast works at Keeneland for trainer Cherie DeVaux, Englishman paid $6.48 to win.

Mayberry Farm purchased Englishman for $400,000 from the Betz Thoroughbreds consignment at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale last year. Besides buying for the Searings, Mayberry Farm breaks and provides early training for their runners.
