Gal in a Rush and Ms. Tart have different connections and train at separate racetracks hundreds of miles apart. But when it's time to race, the two female sprinters regularly land in the same spot.
On Oct. 11 at Woodbine in the six-furlong Ontario Fashion Stakes (G3), they are scheduled to meet for the sixth time this year—every time Gal in a Rush has gone to post in 2025. Both can handle either turf or synthetic surfaces.
Most recently, Gal in a Rush came out on top, winning the Sept. 19 Presque Isle Downs Masters (G2) in Pennsylvania, while Ms. Tart was ninth. Yet three times this year, Ms. Tart has finished ahead of Gal in a Rush in their matchups, twice when Ms. Tart was victorious.
Nathan McCauley's Ms. Tart, a 4-year-old Maximus Mischief filly trained by Kevin Rice, carries high weight of 125 lbs. and jockey Huber Villa-Gomez in the CA$150,000 race, while Sahin Civaci rides Gal in a Rush, a 6-year-old Ghostzapper mare who totes 123 lbs. Both horses have earnings in excess of $200,000 this year.
Miguel Clement trains Gal in a Rush for West Point Thoroughbreds, Chris Larsen, and Titletown Racing Stables. Clement also starts turf-route-to-synthetic-sprint runner Les Reys , who West Point co-owns with partners Peter Leidel and Winters Equine.
Six others complete the nine-horse lineup.
