Travers Tips: Fashion for Guys

Description:

The eyes of the horse racing world will descend upon Saratoga Race Course this Saturday as American Pharaoh returns to the track for the $1.6-million Travers Stakes. With all the added attention for this year’s “Mid-Summer Derby,” there lies an extra incentive for the ladies and gentlemen to put their best fashion foot forward for the occasion.
Below are four fashion pieces for the guys that play off of some of the key storylines for the Travers:

“Canoe” pocket square; $39.50; J. Crew
Fold your pocket square to make the canoe prevalent to play off of the “paint the canoe” tradition of the Travers. If you’re unfamiliar, the silks colors of the winning owners are painted onto the canoe that sits on a pond in the infield of Saratoga.

Plaid blue and yellow bow tie; $19; The Tie Bar
This is the perfect touch to your outfit that plays off of the colors of the Zayat’s silks. That is, if you’re cheering for team Pharoah.

Texas Red snapback; $25; Ascot Creative
If you’re rooting for an upset, the quality contender Texas Red has a new line of apparel out. The snapback hat is a perfect laidback way to cheer on the winner of the Jim Dandy, the key local prep race for the Travers. As an added bonus, portion of the proceeds will go toward Old Friends Farm, so you’ll support retired racehorses with your purchase!

“Haskell” Sunglasses; $95; Warby Parker
It’s shaping up to be a sunny day at the Travers and these shades will offer some protection. I’m a big fan of these as they look just like the spunky specs that Ahmed Zayat rocks frequently. With the frame’s name – Haskell – you’ll also be playing off of the mojo of Pharaoh’s most recent win, the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park earlier this month.
What will you be wearing at Saratoga this weekend?
