Half to Troubleshooting Graduates at Fair Grounds

This column highlights the performances of 3-year-old maidens who have made no more than five starts and who either sold for more than $500,000 at public auction, have siblings that are graded/group winners, or have dams that are graded/group winners. BloodHorse research shows maiden winners, in particular, who meet these criteria are more likely to go on to be graded stakes winners.

Trouble Calling , a half brother to grade 1 winner Troubleshooting , broke his maiden at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. 

Under jockey Luis Saez, he led the 6-furlong dirt race every step of the way. Trouble Calling broke sharply, was sent to the lead, and settled on the inside rail. Longshot Regal Star  tried to press him down the backstretch. In the upper stretch, he shook free from his rivals, and in the final sixteenth, he drew away under a hand ride to win by 6 1/4 lengths. Trouble Calling went off as the post-time favorite in his fifth career start. He was awarded a 97 Equibase Speed Figure and a 91 Beyer Speed Figure. 

The splits of the race were :22.07, :45.34, and :56.95, and the final time was 1:09.18.

He is trained by Greg Foley and owned and bred by Donamire Farm. Trouble Calling is by Darby Dan Farm stallion Dialed In   and out of the Into Mischief   mare Into Trouble , who was also campaigned Donamire Farm. She is the dam of Troubleshooting, a son of Not This Time  , winner of the 2025 Franklin-Simpson Stakes (G1T) at Kentucky Downs and Bryan Station Stakes (G3T) at Keeneland. Troubleshooting is trained by Foley as well, and owned and bred by Donamire Farm. Into Trouble is also the dam of Big Trouble , winner of the 2025 Pan Zareta Stakes at Fair Grounds.

Two races later, Goodall  also broke her maiden on the same Fair Grounds card. 

Trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen and owned by Spendthrift Farm, Goodall broke sharply and gained a contested lead on the far turn. As the field turned into the upper stretch, she met a bid from Lakota Lady . Goodall was able to hold off that rival, digging in in the final sixteenth and holding on to win by a half-length. The splits of the 6-furlong dirt race were :21.42, :44.74, and :56.94, and a final time of 1:10.18. She earned an 83 ESF and 77 Beyer for her win.

Goodall is by 2025 leading freshman sire Yaupon   and out of the Malibu Moon mare, Moon Over Mag Bay , who is the dam of two foals to race, both winners. At the 2025 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, Spendthrift purchased the filly for $525,000 from the consignment of Tom McCrocklin after she breezed a quarter-mile in :20 1/5, the co-fastest time of the sale at the distance.
