Jockey Victor Espinoza has been fined $15,000 by stewards at Saratoga Race Course in connection with having advertising on his pants when he rode American Pharoah to a second-place finish in the Aug. 29 Travers Stakes (gr. I).

The ruling was issued Aug. 31 by stewards and filed with the New York State Gaming Commission. It states Espinoza, by wearing promotional material for Monster Energy drinks, violated the rule that prohibits "wearing of advertising without permission and wearing promotional materials without permission after having been specifically instructed not to do so by the stewards."

Monster had a promotional deal with the connections of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah for the Belmont Stakes Presented by DraftKings (gr. I).
