Al and Bill Ulwelling's Renamed shook free in early stretch and pulled away to a clear win in the first race at Canterbury Park Aug. 29, becoming the first winner for grade III winner and New Mexico stallion Everyday Heroes.
A 9-year-old son of Awesome Again, Everyday Heroes stands near Roswell, N.M. at Dr. Kevin Blach's South Springs Stallion Station, where his 2015 fee was $1,500. There are 16 2-year-olds in his first crop.
Everyday Heroes compiled a 5-1-1 record from 13 career starts that included victories in the 2009 Hirsch Jacobs Stakes (gr. III) at Pimlico Race Course and 2010 James B. Moseley Sprint Stakes at Suffolk Downs while banking lifetime earnings of $240,800. His dam is the stakes-winning Dayjur mare Lucette, whose half sister Baby Zip produced 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper and grade I winner City Zip and was 2005 Broodmare of the Year.
Trained by Michael Biehler, Renamed won by 2 1/4 lengths after closely pressing the early pace, and covered 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:07.40 on a fast track. Bred in Minnesota by Todd Nelson and Tracy Stacy Nelson, her dam is the winning Chimes Band mare Nimble Band. The winner was sold by her breeders for $6,000 at the 2014 Minnesota Thoroughbred Association yearling and mixed sale.
