Palace Malice's Wins to Benefit Research

Dogwood Stable has announced it will donate 1% of 2013 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Palace Malice's future graded stakes wins to the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation.
The 4-year-old Curlin colt is to make his 2014 debut in the Gulfstream Park Handicap (gr. II) Saturday, March 8.
"What better cause than Grayson, whose research is vital to improving the health and welfare of horses? The breed has benefitted enormously through the vigorous efforts of this division of the Jockey Club," said Cot Campbell, president of Dogwood Stable. "Any successful racehorse outfit owes a debt to Grayson, and we hope to strike a significant blow toward it in the coming year. And whatever it may be is not enough.
"This sort of percentage commitment of a horse's earnings has been done by a few others in the past, and it should catch on as a logical procedure for the future. I hope more and more owners will consider it. It could get to be a truly significant funding factor for Grayson. Predictably, our partners are enthusiastic about our pledge."
In a release, Dogwood said that Palace Malice, with lifetime earnings of $1,481,252, is looking at a 2014 campaign of 10 to 12 races, culminating hopefully in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic.
"Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation has always been grateful for the support we have received from Dogwood Stable," said foundation president Edward L. Bowen. "The pledge from graded stakes wins by Palace Malice is a major help to us, not only in the anticipated funding but in helping focus attention on how the Foundation works on behalf of the horse and horsemen."
