Description:

Corey Nakatani took off his mounts for the remainder of the Sept. 7 closing-day card at Del Mar after his mount in the third race, Tirpitz, fell in the stretch of the five-furlong turf race. Tirpitz had to be euthanized on the track.

Nakatani was taken to a hospital for observation. His remaining mounts included Ankeny Hill in the Pirate's Bounty Stakes. Ankeny Hill, ridden by Fernando Perez, finished fourth behind winner Big Macher.

Eric Kruljac trained Tirpitz for the Kings River Ranch. The 3-year-old Florida-bred son of Northern Afleet   was making his fifth lifetime start in the maiden event. The gelding posted a third and a second this spring at Santa Anita Park.

Del Mar stewards conducted an inquiry into Tirpitz's spill and ruled that no other horse was responsible for the incident.
