Techwerkian wins a maiden special weight at Belterra Park

Gainesway's grade 1-winning freshman sire Olympiad   sired his first winner June 12 when his daughter Techwerkian  wired a field of 6 going 4 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Belterra Park

Indian Creek bred Techwerkian out of the winning Smart Strike mare Comedia , who also is the dam of stakes winner Colonel Ludlow  (Street Sense  ). Comedia is a half sister to graded-placed stakes winner Abraham (Distorted Humor); grade 1-placed winner Beat the Benchmark (Speightstown); and Complex Analysis (Distorted Humor), who is the dam of Intricate , a mare by Gun Runner   who won the 2023 Golden Rod Stakes (G2) and was third in the 2024 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1).

Indian Creek sold Techwerkian for $40,000 to Brookdale Farm during the 2025 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale and the filly was resold for $20,000 to trainer Rey Hernandez during the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Hernandez races Techwerkian with Ricardo Labra and Rhonda Cornum. The filly, ridden by Yarmarie Correa, ran the 4 1/2 furlongs in :52.88.

Olympiad is an 8-year-old son of Speightstown who won at 2 and 3, and then landed five graded stakes at 4, topped by the 2022 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1). He also was runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) to eventual Horse of the Year Flightline  .

Olympiad stands for $20,000.
