Darley Stallions' grade 1-winning freshman sire Mystic Guide sired his first winner June 26 when his daughter Seraph won by open lengths in her racing debut at Busan Racecourse in South Korea.
Lee Kwang Lim bred Seraph out of the winning Central Banker mare Closing Deals, who he bought for $8,500 from Brookdale Sales at the 2023 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in foal to Mystic Guide. Closing Deals is out of the stakes-placed City Zip mare Spirit of Rose, who is also the dam of stakes-placed winners Zipalong (Central Banker) and Thorny Tale (Forty Tales ). The immediate family also produced grade 3 winner Bello and graded-placed stakes winner Buoy.
Seraph is owned by Dae Gil and trained by Lim Sung Sil. She made her debut in a 1,000-meter (about 5-furlong) special weight. She broke sharply, quickly took a lead she never relinquished, and won by 7 lengths in a final time of :59.4.
Mystic Guide is a Godolphin homebred by 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper out of five-time grade 1 winner Music Note. At 3, he won the 2020 Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) and was second in the Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1). At 4, he captured the Dubai World Cup (G1) and Razorback Handicap (G3) and was second in the Suburban Stakes (G2) on his way to banking $7,593,200 in career earnings.
Mystic Guide stands for $7,500.
