Medaglia d'Oro Fillies Top Sands Point Field

A well-balanced field of 3-year-old fillies, including recent grade II winners Mrs McDougal and Sentiero Italia, has been entered in the Sands Point Stakes (gr. IIT) on the Sept. 12 opening Saturday card at Belmont Park.



The ninth race on the 10-race program, the Sands Pointat 1 1/8 miles over the inner turf coursedrew 13 entries, including Pangburn, a supplemental nominee entered for the main track only.



Mrs McDougal and Sentiero Italia are both daughters of the Darley sire Medaglia d'Oro  , second-leading Genral Sire this year.



Mr. and Mrs. William K. Warren's Mrs McDougal just got up at the wire to post a half-length triumph over Feathered in the Lake George Stakes (gr. IIT), also at 1 1/8 miles at Saratoga Race Course July 24. Previously, the filly trained by Chad Brown finished fourth in the American Oaks (gr. IT) at Santa Anita Park.



A $450,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase bred in Kentucky by Aaron U. and Marie Jones, Mrs McDougal is the co-highweight at 120 pounds.



Also assigned 120 is Godolphin Stable's homebred Sentireo Italia, winner of the Maker's Mark Lake Placid (gr. IIT) which, like the Lake George, was run at 1 1/8 miles over Saratoga's grass course, this time on Aug. 14. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Sentiero Italia broke her maiden and won an allowance before finishing a close-up fourth, 3 1/2 lengths behind winner Lady Eli, in the Belmont Oaks Invitational (gr. IT).



Miss Temple City, who was steadied before running on to finish second in the Lake Placid, is making her eighth career startat seven different tracksin the Sands Point. A daughter of Temple City   bred in Kentucky by Bob Feld Bloodstock, the filly trained by Graham Motion for Sagamore Farms, Allen Rosenblum, and The Club Racing, won the Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico Race Course, has placed in two additional stakes, and has earned $232,799.



Three Chimneys Farm's Cara Marie, who races on or close to the pace, finished third in the Lake George after winning the Indy Star Stakes on grass at Indiana Grand Race Course. The Unbridled's Song filly bred in Kentucky by Sun Valley Farm and the Unbridled's Song Syndicate, was a $90,000 Keeneland November breeding stock sale purchase by Twin Peaks as a weanling and then was bought by her current connections for $460,000 from the St. George consignment to the Keeneland September yearling sale. The gray or roan filly trained by Kellyn Gorder has won two of six starts.



Shipping in from the West Coast is Ike and Dawn Thrash's Her Emmynency, a daughter of Successful Appeal   trained by Mike Stidham. The Kentucky-bred filly who cost $115,000 at the Keeneland fall yearling sale has won or placed second in five of six starts and tops the field with earnings of $240,250.



A winner first out on the main track at Santa Anita in 2014, the filly then finished second in the Del Mar Debutante (gr. I) on synthetic last year before winning the Santa Anita's Surfer Girl Stakes in her turf debut. In her most recent start, Her Emmynency finished second in the Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT).
