Description:

After a 17-year absence, live Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred racing with pari-mutuel wagering returns to Casper, Wyo. for four  daysSept. 12-13 and Sept. 19-20. The races will take place at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds and each day will feature eight live races, with the first post time at 12:30 p.m. each day.

"It is an honor to be able to bring back live racing to Casper," said Eugene Joyce, president and general manager of Wyoming Horse Racing. "There has not been racing at the Fairgrounds since 1998, and we have worked very hard with state and local elected officials and the business community to bring racing back to Casper. Horsemen are excited and racing fans are excited, and we are looking forward to two fantastic weekends of racing."

Wyoming Horse Racing just completed nine days of racing in Rock Springs, and after the two weekends of racing in Casper, the circuit continues with three days of racing at Energy Downs in Gillette (Sept. 25-27). Wyoming Horse Racing also offers year-around wagering opportunities on races simulcast from other tracks throughout the country, as well as wagering on historical horse racing.

The growth in Wyoming racing is directly attributal to the adoption of historical racing in 2013. Also known as Instant Racing, historical racing is an electronic kiosk game that is pari-mutuel in nature because the wagering is pooled, all transactions are processed by a totalizator, and the outcome of the games are determined by previously run horse races. In 2012 Wyoming offered only four days of live racing that generated a total handle of $136,546, according to a Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission Annual Report. In 2014, state racetracks offered 20 days of live racing that generated a total handle of more than $1.15 million.
