Fully Subscribed wins the Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga Race Course
Fully Subscribed was all in while winning the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) Aug. 29 at Saratoga Race Course.
The Klaravich Stables runner won the 1 1/8-mile dirt race by 9 3/4 lengths under a beautiful ride by Flavien Prat. It was her first grade 1 victory.
In capturing the Personal Ensign, Fully Subscribed earned an automatic, fees-paid berth to the Oct. 31 Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) at Keeneland through the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series: Win and You're In.
Fully Subscribed was not rushed in the early running while saving ground on the rail and racing 2 to 3 lengths off the pace set by Snowyte in the six-horse field of fillies and mares vying for the $500,000 purse.
Snowyte showed the way through fractions of :24.11, :47.64, and 1:11.43. After 1 mile was run in 1:36.48, Scottish Lassie , the second choice at 8-5 who stalked the pacesetter, came head to head with Snowyte. But the late-charging Fully Subscribed, the 4-5 favorite, was maneuvered to the outside by Prat and turned on the burners in a stunning display of acceleration.
The winner returned $3.86 and completed the distance in 1:49.23 over a track rated fast.
Scottish Lassie held for second by a half-length over Nerazurri . Completing the order of finish was Snowyte, Margie's Intention , and Speed Shopper .
Trained by Chad Brown, Fully Subscribed, a 4-year-old daughter of Tiz the Law🔥 out of the Candy Ride mare Sweetbaby , was bred by Payson Stud. The matriarch of Payson Stud, Virginia Kraft Payson, died at 92 early in 2023, less than one year after Fully Subscribed was foaled in March 2022.
Seth Klarman, who races under the nom-de-course Klaravich Stables, sported a big grin as he walked his winning filly into the winner's circle alongside his wife, Beth.
"We wanted her to save ground if she could, not that it matters that much, but we hoped that she would," said Klarman, who bought the filly at the 2024 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training for $300,000.
"The way it set up, she really was the only one that wanted to run that distance today. Very special. She's getting better."
As for the Saratoga race meet that Klarman is enjoying, he called it "solid." He led in both races won and purses earned by a comfortable margin heading into Saturday's card. He has been the meet leader on several occasions in recent years.
Brown said a next spot for his Personal Ensign winner could come in the Sept. 25 Beldame Stakes (G2) or the Oct. 4 Spinster Stakes (G1).
"Spinster, of course, is over at the same track they're going to run the Breeders' Cup. (We'll) survey what's going on in the division, who's doing what, what the potential fields look like and go from there."
The Personal Ensign win brought Fully Subscribed's record to 5-3-1 in nine starts for earnings of $1,038,800.
Tiz the Law stood the 2026 breeding season at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky., for $40,000.
