Description:

A full field of 12 3-year-old fillies will seek their first graded stakes victory late in the evening of Sept. 19 in the $100,000 Dogwood Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs.

Half of the field enters with graded stakes-placed credentials, with St. George Stables' Huasca coming the closest to winning at that level. The Dogwood goes with a post of 10:11 p.m. ET as the feature on a "Downs After Dark" card at the Louisville oval.

A two-time stakes winner, including a score in Gulfstream Park's Uanme Stakes last time out Sept. 6, the daughter of Tiz Wonderful has just missed with seconds in two grade III sprints this yearthe Adena Springs Miss Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course May 15 and the Azalea Stakes at Gulfstream July 5.

William Connelly's Heart's Song finished third in last year's Golden Rod Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill and has won or placed in every one of her other eight starts, including five stakes. The hard-closing Desert Party   filly tops the field with $247,941 in earnings.

I'm a Looker, Chide, Kathballu, and Sweet Success also bring graded stakes-placed credentials, but an invader from the West Coast may end up as the eventual favorite.

LNJ Foxwoods' Super Majesty, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, will make her stakes debut in the Dogwood, but boasts field-best speed figures in her three starts. The Super Saver   filly broke her maiden at first asking going six furlongs at Santa Anita Park in May (she won by 6 1/4 lengths), then wowed in her second startalso at six furlongsin an allowance/optional claiming event she won by 15 1/4 lengths at Los Alamitos Race Course in July. Super Majesty just missed by a nose in her two-turn debut in another allowance/optional claimer at Del Mar in August, but dials back to one turn for the Dogwood.

Stakes-placed Sweet Swingin and allowance winners Zeven, Pleasant Tales, and Street Song complete the field along with maiden victress All Day Alice.
