Texas Red, winner of the 2014 Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) and this year's edition of the Jim Dandy (gr. II), will miss the rest of 2015 due to a cannon bone bruise.
Erich Brehm Jr., son of co-owner Eric Brehm broke the news via Twitter Sept. 17, when he said the Afleet Alex colt would require 60 to 90 days of paddock time and that his connections will look to bring him back in 2016.

After winning the Juvenile and running second in the San Vincente (gr. II) off a third behind eventual Triple Crown winner American Pharoah in the FrontRunner Stakes (gr. I) last year, Texas Red missed the Triple Crown trail because of a foot abscess that led to a quarter crack.
The Keith Desormeaux trainee returned July 4 with a runner-up finish in the Dwyer Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park, then turned back Frosted in an exciting edition of the Jim Dandy. He was fifth in the Travers Stakes (gr. I) last out.
Texas Red, bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings out of the Jeune Homme mare Ramatuelle, was a $17,000 purchase by Brehm from the 2013 Keeneland September yearling sale when consigned by Three Chimneys. He races for a partnership that includes Desormeaux, Brehm, Lee Michaels, Wayne Detmar, and Gene Voss.
