The Breeders' Cup announced Sept. 17 that Steve Penley, known for his iconic American subjects ranging from past presidents to historical themes and super consumer brands, has been named the official artist for the 2015 Breeders' Cup World Championships. Penley has created a signature image, available to the public, employing a rich montage technique celebrating the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland in Lexington Oct. 30-31.
The 2015 official Breeders' Cup image accentuates frontal views of charging Thoroughbreds, which is combined with side perspectives and several recognizable features, such as the starting gate and stately green gate posts at Keeneland. The image can be found at the following link for purchase: breederscupart.com.
"Steve's portrayal of this year's event captures the drama, style and sheer excitement of the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland," Breeders' Cup president Craig Fravel said. "We are honored and delighted to display his image as part this year's festivities, and to provide fans an opportunity to take home some treasured memories of their 2015 experience."
"It's a great honor for me to have been selected as the Breeders' Cup official artist," said Penley, who lives Newnan, Ga. "To be given the opportunity to capture the power, elegance, and beauty of both Thoroughbreds and the venue at Keeneland was a welcome challenge, and one I hope I did justice to for such an august and storied tradition. I'm thrilled to be a part of Breeders' Cup World Championships' highly-anticipated homecoming to Lexington."
