With a last-to-first move Sept. 18 at Northlands Park, Liberty Road Stables' Indian Love gave trainer Dale Saunders his 2,000th victory.
Indian Love, a Kentucky-bred son of Cherokee Run, raced last in the field of six early in the 6 1/2-furlong claiming race, but rallied impressively to win by 4 1/4 lengths, covering the distance in 1:19.75 under jockey Ruben Lara.
Saunders' training statistics date all the way back to 1969 and his runners have earned more than $15.5 million in his career. His lifetime mark sits at 2,000-1,894-1,769 from 12,065 starters. This year the Alberta-based conditioner is 26-21-8 from 126 starts, with $297,509 in earnings.
