Shipping into Louisville from Southern California, Super Majesty was making her stakes debut for LNJ Foxwoods and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, and vied for the early lead before gaining command down the backstretch. With a clear advantage into the stretch for jockey Alex Solis, she held on to on get the win by 1 3/4 lenghts as Chide, rallying from far back at the top of the lane, closed furiously down the outside to take second.
Sweet Swingin finished third.
Racing along the inside, Super Majesty had a half-length advantage from
Pleasant Tales, with
Huasca in close pursuit, as the opening quarter went in :22.78 and was clear by a length through a half mile in :45.58. Opening up by three lengths in early stretch, Super Majesty covered seven furlongs in 1:23.02 as the 11-10 favorite on a fast track.
"I talked to Jerry this morning and we didn't think anybody had the speed that she has," Solis said. "They didn't. I'm very fortunate to ride a filly like her. She has a lot of talent."
Chide, who had plenty of work to do for Shaun Bridgmohan as she was 10th of 12 runners into the lane, outfinished 31-1 outsider Sweet Swingin by a neck for second.
Super Majesty entered with two wins from three career starts, including her debut victory in May at
Santa Anita Park and a 15 1/4-length romp in a first-level allowance/optional claiming race at
Los Alamitos Race Course in July. She came tantalizingly close to notching a third straight win next time out Aug. 23 at
Del Mar, finishing second by a nose as the heavy 1-5 favorite, but would not be denied Saturday night.
A daughter of
Super Saver , Super Majesty was not an original nominee to the Dogwood and was supplemented for $3,000. Her win was the first in a graded stakes for Larry, Nanci, and Jamie Roth of LNJ Foxwoods.
Super Majesty sold to bloodstock agents Alex Solis II, who is Solis' son, and Jason Litt for $400,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Florida sale, where Eddie Woods consigned. She was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm from the Go for Gin mare Gins Majesty.
Super Majesty paid $4.20, $3 and $2.60, Chide returned $4.80 and $3.40, and Sweet Swingin paid $9.40 to show.
