Dressing for Belmont’s Super Saturday on a Budget

Description:

On October 3 Belmont Park, located just outside of New York City, will be home to a huge day of racing. Known as Super Saturday, the track will be host to four races that will qualify their winners to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at the end of the month. With great horse racing comes the opportunity to show off some great style, and I’ve put together five fall looks that are chic enough for the New York crowd but don’t come with Fifth Avenue price tags. Below are five outfits that fit a budget and will have you looking your best for a day at the races.

From Nina Ricci to Etro, patchwork was all over the Fall 2015 runways; this $15.99 New Chic dress embraces that trend without making you look like your great-aunt’s macramé pot holders. The $32 keyhole booties are from Steve Madden, and the classic handbag (Dasein, $47) picks up on some of the pops of color in the dress. I added a $40 ModCloth fascinator, a $10 Boohoo cuff that plays on the geometrical elements of the dress, $30 Saachi earrings and finished everything off with a pair of $8.90 cat-eye shades from New Coming. This on-trend look embraces runway styles but not prices, with the whole ensemble adding up to $183.89

Another fall trend to incorporate into your Super Saturday look is a big statement belt. This version is $17 from Steve Madden, and I layered it over this $39 H&M dress and added these chic over-the-knee dove gray boots from K Stores USA for $30. The marsala tote picks up on the dress’s more subtle color details, as do the $48 zipper earrings from Marc by Marc Jacobs. Throw on a pair of round sunglasses ($20, MQ) and this spectacular cocktail ring ($16, River Island) and you’re ready to go for just $170.

In the name of honesty, I feel compelled to tell you that this is by far my favorite look of the group. I’m kind of angry that I’m not wearing this right now, in fact. I love the unexpected orange in this River Island skirt, which is on the pricier side at $84. The Neiman Marcus bag is $31, and the d’Orsay pumps are just $25 from Windsor Store. The simple, sleek top is $13 from Zara, and I am obsessed with this $24 Zking hat that I found on Amazon. Accessorize with this $17 Spartina bracelet and these $38 Kate Spade earrings, and you’re off to the races for $232.

October in New York means that there can be a chill in the air; that’s when a killer coat like this one ($34, SheIn) comes into play. I chose a pair of Biadani trousers for $20 and this snuggly $21 RomWe sweater to keep things cozy but chic. Stacked heel boots are back, and I’m in love with this $23 pair from H&M. Throw your program in this $23 Scarleton hobo bag, add a classic watch ($22, Junior BP) and top everything off with this $20 teal felt Charlotte Russe hat; all in all, this looks comes to $163 from top to toe.

If you can’t bring a little drama to the racetrack, then where can you bring it? I started with this $47 SheInside dress and a pair of $2.95 sheer stockings from Daily Look, then upped the glamour with this vintage-influenced coat for $31 from Pink Queen. Port wine colored heels ($36, CiCiHot) and a snakeskin clutch ($36, BB Wraps) pair nicely with the dress, and I cannot resist these opera-length leather gloves for $27 from Wilson Leather – they will look so great disappearing into the batwing sleeves of the coat. Add a pillbox hat ($22 via Amazon), a stunning faux-pearl necklace for $48 from Humble Chic and finish off the look with these $5.90 shades from Forever21. All in all, this outfit will run you $255.85 but have you feeling like a million bucks.
No matter what you wear to the races, just remember to have a great time and keep an eye out for your favorite horses as they continue down the road to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
