European Invaders Spice Up Miss Grillo

Description:

Belvoir Bay, winner of a handicap race in her native England in July, will tote highweight of 119 pounds in a full field of 2-year-old fillies in the $200,000 Miss Grillo Stakes (gr. IIIT) Sept. 27 going 1 1/16 miles over the Belmont Park turf.

Belvoir Bay will be making her first Stateside appearance after winning two of five in England. She was most recently fourth in a group III event a month ago going seven furlongs over soft ground. Wild About Harry stretches out after coming from far off the pace to win her debut at six furlongs against New York-breds two weeks ago.

Also exiting New York-bred ranks is Lemon Liqueur, who sprinted home on top in her debut before finishing third in a New York-bred stakes at Saratoga Racecourse a month ago at 6 1/2 furlongs. Another one stretching out is Laurel Park invader Look Who's Talking, most recently a distant second in an off-the-turf Selima Stakes after breaking her maiden on the grass going 5 1/2 furlongs.

Thrilled has been the Miss Grillo distance in both of her two starts, breaking her maiden by a nose at Saratoga over Harmonize before that one turned the tables on her in the P.G. Johnson Stakes in early September. She is a mid-pack runner who has shown a nice kick.

Llanita is an intriguing participant. The latest filly from the Martin Schwartz/Chad Brown tandem, she is winless in three starts in France, although she ran second in a stakes there at seven furlongs in early August. Archarella has made all three of her starts at Delaware Park, breaking her maiden on the turf last month at 7 1/2 furlongs. She showed a new speedy dimension in that effort.

Brown also sends out Breakfast Time, fourth in her debut at 1 1/16 miles at Saratoga for Sheep Pond Partners, who own undefeated Lady Eli. Tin Type Gal won at the Miss Grillo distance on the Saratoga lawn last out after a troubled trip and should be laying close to the pace.

Time and Motion found trouble in her first start going 1 1/16 miles at the Spa and managed an even fourth. She is ambitiously placed but obviously well thought of by Phillips Racing Partnership, which won a grade III with Recepta last week. Chinchilla Dust broke her maiden two back against New York-breds but was distanced last out in the Natalma (Can-IIT) at a flat mile.
