Those hoping to see Hronis Racing's Stellar Wind back in action on Santa Anita Park's jam-packed opening day Sept. 26 will likely only have to wait a week to watch the 3-year-old daughter of Curlin run, but it won't be in California.
Bypassing Saturday's Zenyatta Stakes (gr. I), trainer John Sadler previously indicated that her likely landing spot would be the Oct. 4 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland, which would serve as a final prep for a potential run in the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) at the Lexington track.
The trainer wouldn't commit officially to the Spinster Saturday morning, after Stellar Wind worked five furlongs in :59 2/5 under Victor Espinoza at Santa Anita, but said he will make a decision on whether to ship her Sept. 27.
"I don't know yet," Sadler said. "I've got to look at the horse and look at the field. We'll make a call tomorrow, but it was a good work this morning."
A four-time graded winner in 2015—including the Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I)—Stellar Wind's only loss this year was the last time she shipped to the Bluegrass State in May for the Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I). Despite a nine-wide trip in that race at Churchill Downs, she was still able to get up for fourth.
