Red Dubawi Last to First at San Siro

Description:
German-trained Red Dubawi came from last place to get the lead in the closing stages and win Premio Vittorio di Capua (Ity-I) Sept. 27 at San Siro in Milan.

Victorious in a pair of group races last year in Germany, Red Dubawi tallied his first win from five starts this season while striking at the group I level for the first time. He ran down pacesetter Kapersky for command in the final 125 yards and powered clear as Bookrunner, a Kentucky-bred son of Tiznow  , came up for second. Circus Couture was third in the field of 11.

Trained by Erika Mader for owner Zalim Bifov, Red Dubawi becomes the 11th top-tier winner this season for Darley sire Dubawi.

Red Dubawi, ridden by Andreas Suborics, completed 1,600 meters (about one mile) in 1:36.90 on good- to-soft turf. He has a 5-2-8 record, including from 42 career starts that also includes a stakes victory and three stakes placings in France, two additional group placings in Germany, and four stakes-placings in Ireland.

Haras des Sablonnets bred 7-year-old Red Dubawi in Ireland from the Homme de Loi mare Maredsous, a French stakes winner who was group-placed. He was a 2009 Arqana Deauville yearling sale graduate when he was purchased by Sean Murphy for €75,000 (US$106,418).
