The Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Oct. 30-31 is the richest racing festival in North America, and along with incredible horse racing and fantastic betting opportunities comes the chance to dress to the nines. But whether you’re attending one or both days of the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland or are planning on watching from another track, at a bar, or anywhere else, you may want to save your pennies for the ponies and keep your clothing budget to a minimum. If that’s the case, we have five looks perfect for the Breeders’ Cup and beyond that won’t bust your bank account.

The Breeders’ Cup’s signature color is royal purple, and I used that hue as the basis of the look above. The saturated amethyst dress is $25 from Pink Queen, and I added a matching fascinator for $20 from NYfashion101 on Amazon. I love the pop of orange in the scarf ($7.98, Amazon) and then kept the rest of the accessories neutral: gloves ($48, Pink Queen), shoes ($23, Michael Antonio), handbag ($28, RomWe) an trench ($32, RoseWe.) Throw on a classic but modern pair of earrings for $25 from Sole Society and you’re ready for the Breeders’ Cup for $208.98.

If you’re an American Pharoah fan, it’s fun to incorporate the colors of owner Zayat Stable’s racing silks into your look. However, the autumn pallet can be a little restrictive when it comes to the bright yellow and aqua that make up the Zayats’ colors, so I made things a little more seasonally appropriate by using saffron and teal. I used a pair of $40 double-cloth pants from Zara (stylish *and* warm – a crucial combination so close to November!) and then added a $35 Dorothy Perkins blouse. The statement coat is only $32 from May Kool, and I love the $46 piper hat from Back Country. The booties are $46 from Shoe Buy, and the matching satchel is just $27 from May Kool. The tortoise shell ring ($22, Ruby Lane) and horse bit earrings ($30, Pink Mascara) complete the look, as does the plum lipstick by NYX for $6. Altogether, this look will run you $284; it is on the pricey side, but you get some standout staples in the blouse, pants and jacket that will last you through the autumn, winter and into the spring.

I love orange so much; it’s a great signature color, and it flatters so many skin tones. I used a pencil skirt from J. Tomson for $14, then layered a blazer ($27.46, Awesome21) over an embellished blouse from OURS for $11. The Wild Diva pumps are a $25 version of Valentino’s ubiquitous (and insanely expensive) Rock Studs that are everywhere on red carpets right now; and I just really, really want this butterfly bag ($30) from SheInside. Add on a bright fascinator for $23 from Graceful Glam, a boyfriend watch ($21, JC Penney) and some bangles ($14, Liz Claiborne) and you’re Breeders’ Cup ready for only $165.46.

That’s right: a turban. Look, if you can’t seize the moment and rock a Liz Taylor-style lid for the Breeders’ Cup, when exactly are you going to do it? I love this ecru version for $4.50 from NYfashion101, and I paired it with this great plaid dress for $39 from Pink Queen. The dove gray booties are $38.99 from Audrey Brooke Perry, and I love the simple H&M satchel for $31. Throw on some faux-fur trimmed gloves for $27 from Wilson Leather, a pair of $11 H&M tights, and a sensational pair of pewter earrings for $15 from Bling Jewelry; then top everything off with a $43 Zaful trench. All of this fabulosity will run you $209.49 from turban to toe.

I love a cloche – they’re evocative of the roaring 20s, and they’re the perfect hat for colder weather. This mustard version is just $25 from Aniwon, and I paired it with a $29.99 forest green sweater dress from Jessica Simpson. The taupe knee-high boots are $49 from Lulu’s, and the mock-ostrich tote is $30 from Zulily. The $10 Drivers Only shades mimic the sunglasses favored by flappers in the 1920s, and the final accessories are these simple chevron studs ($38, Zee Berry) and this decidedly not-so-simple but ever-so-covetable jungle cat ring for $21 from Ever Faith. (BRB, ordering that ring and wearing it everywhere.) All together, this look comes to $202.99.
No matter what you wear, the Breeders’ Cup is some of the most exciting horse racing all year; if you’re not coming to Keeneland, be sure to tune in on NBC and NBC Sports Network to catch all of the World Championships action!
