The Breeders’ Cup World Championships are right around the corner, with the best Thoroughbreds on Earth converging on Keeneland Race Course’s hallowed grounds on Oct. 30-31 to compete for fame, glory and over $24 million in purses. Whether you’re a lifelong lover of horse racing or a brand-new fan, excitement is building as we get closer to the World Championships.
So how do horse racing fans pass the time during the wait for the Breeders’ Cup? Let us show you. In GIFs, of course, because this is the Internet.
1. Every time you remember that the Breeders’ Cup is coming up, you start getting so excited.
2. Maybe you scored tickets and you’re heading to Lexington to watch the Breeders’ Cup in person.
3. Or maybe you’re going to a party to watch with friends, have a bet or two and enjoy a cocktail as well.
4. You have your outfit for the Breeders’ Cup all planned, and you are going to look fabulous.
5. There’s only one problem, though …
6. While the Breeders’ Cup is so close on paper, it feels like the actual event is so far away.
7. How on Earth are you supposed to pass the time until then?
8. Well, you can jump on Twitter and get into a calm, rational and not at all emotionally-driven discussion about why your favorite horse is going to win his or her division.
9. You can look up videos of some of the qualifying races to relive the thrills of the road to the Breeders’ Cup. (May we shamelessly recommend the ABR app for this?)
10. You can make sure that you’ve programmed your DVR to record every moment of Breeders’ Cup coverage.
11. You can go over the contenders’ past performances to try to deduct who’s going to win the races using logic and stats.
12. Or you can take to Instagram to look at photos of your favorite horses as they train for the Breeders’ Cup.
13. Maybe you’re the one throwing the Breeders’ Cup party to so you and your friends can watch the races together. That means you can start planning the menu! (And making test batches of the recipes. We are not here to judge.)
14. You might unleash your creative side and make some fan art to support your favorite Breeders’ Cup horse. Like I said: we’re not here to judge.
15. But no matter how you pass the time between now and the World Championships, you’re going to be in a good mood every time you remember that the Breeders’ Cup is just around the corner!
