Tapiture and Holy Boss, two Breeders' Cup World Championships hopefuls trained by Steve Asmussen, breezed at Keeneland the morning of Oct. 11.
Jerry Durant's Holy Boss, winner of the Amsterdam Stakes (gr. II) who is aiming for the TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I), worked a half-mile in :50 4/5, getting the first quarter in :26 3/5. The son of Street Boss has won half of his 10 starts, including three stakes.
Winchell Thoroughbreds' grade II winner Tapiture (Dirt Mile), a 4-year-old son of Tapit , worked five furlongs in 1:00 3/5 with a split of :37. 2/5 and out six furlongs in 1:14 1/5.
Assistant Scott Blasi said he and Asmussen were pleased with the effort, Tapiture's second work here since winning the grade III Ack Ack Stakes at Churchill Downs Sept. 26. That race marked the first victory for Tapiture, second in last year's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I), since his win in the West Virginia Derby (gr. II) in August 2014.
"We think he's fresh; love how his weight looks and his attitude," Blasi said. "His coat looks awesome. He's rounding back in his old self, we hope."
