This year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships happen to fall right on Halloween. Why not seize the day and come up with some clever costume ideas to celebrate the best racehorses on the planet competing for year-end titles? Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

Love the mare Beholder? She’s going to be taking on the boys in the Breeders’ Cup Classic this year, so why not show your support by dressing up as a bee holder? I found this beekeeper’s costume on Ebay for $35.41, then threw on a pair of combat boots ($40, Rock and Candy.) Grab two sets of bee finger puppets for $1.19 each from Partypalloza, cover both hands with bumblebees, and you’re ready to go for just $77.79.

Love American Pharoah? Then Halloween is your time to show off some pride on a royal scale! I started with an American flag morphsuit for $32 from blockbuster costumes, then layered a generic pharaoh costume ($39, Totally Costumes) over it. Grab a horsehead mask for about $8 from Bonanza.com, an asp staff for $13 from Totally Costume, and a pair of gladiator sandals for $44 from BooHoo. Since this is *American* Pharoah, after all, you’re going to need some super glue to affix the bald eagle toy ($17, Nordstrom) atop your pharaoh hat.

Feeling creative? If so, stick with me here for a minute. If you love Frosted, I have the costume idea for you: grab some hula hoops (these are $$9.99 each from Oriental Trading, but I’m sure you can grab some at the dollar store much cheaper.) Then, use strips of 108-inch wide white cotton wool roll to create a fluffy cylinder with the hula hoops as the top and bottom. Be sure to cover the hula hoops so that no color is showing. Then, affix those straps (these are actually $7.46 Weathabeeta leg strap replacements for a horse blanket, but they’re perfect!) to the top of one of the hula hoops to make arm straps and cover with more cotton wool. Wear the whole thing over white tights ($6 from Target) and a white turtleneck ($15, Beauty Botique.) Now wear a white horsehead mask ($18) and a novelty cake hat ($15) and you’ve just become Frosted. (Also, you may want to wear a pair of sneakers, because the ground is no place for white tights.)

Love Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff runner Wedding Toast? Then this is an easy one! Snag this bread costume (it’s actually a grilled cheese costume from Fantasy Toy Land, but whatever) and then throw on a novelty bachelorette tiara for about $15 from Etsy. Grab a bouquet of silk flowers ($13, Etsy) and you’re ready for your big day!
