Win, Place and Show of Breeders’ Cup Fashion

Description:

The Breeders’ Cup World Championships takes place at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky. on Oct. 30-31, and along with the best horse racing action in the world comes the opportunity to show off your most fabulous fall fashion. Below are some Breeders’ Cup-worthy looks that will suit any budget. I’ve broken them up into three price points; Win refers to the most expensive, place (horse racing’s term for coming in second) is the middle of the road, which show (betting parlance for third) denotes the most affordable looks. Ready? Let’s go!
WIN

I love capes so much, and this navy and grey version ($238, Boden) is so beautiful. I layered it over this pretty pencil skirt for $311 by Raoul and a $54 Warehouse sweater. Strut your stuff in these Vince Giustina shoes for $395… but be sure to stow a pair of these $84 Yosi Samra foldable flats in your purse ($199, Furla) so you have a little relief if your feet start getting sore. Accessorize with some stylish shades ($175, Miu Miu), a fabulous fascinator for $105 from John Lewis and some lined gloves in dove grey for $138 from Brooks Brothers. All together this look will get you to the starting gate for $1,699. Better place a few winning bets!

I’m obsessed with this bouclé coat from Ricki’s for $190 – the high neck and skirted silhouette is very on-trend for autumn 2015. The Être Cécile mini dress ($270) is simple but beautifully tailored, and it’s a perfect backdrop to show off some beautiful accessories. I added a Paul Smith fedora in Breeders’ Cup purple for $135, Alexis Bittar $111 earrings, $179 Nine West boots, and this awesome Fossil bag for $228. Be sure to wear a pair of tights ($6.97, Via Spaga) if it’s chilly and you’re off to the races for $1,119.97.

I think this Topshop skirt ($105) is so pretty, and every star on every red carpet right now seems to be sporting some variation of floral on a black background. It’s the perfect microtrend to rock at the Breeders’ Cup, and for this look I added a blouse from Mango for $60 and a pea coat from Calvin Klein for $130. These snakeskin Just Cavalli ankle boots for $159 are perfect, picking up on the subtle light blues in the skirt’s embroidered flowers; and I love this Milly clutch ($189) and the $30 fascinator I found on Amazon. A pair of black tights ($11, H&M) will keep you nice and toasty, and the whole looks will run you $684.
PLACE

Dressing monochromatically evokes European glamour to me, so I built this look around a saturated garnet color. The dress ($50) is by Miss Selfridge, the fascinator is $22 by Aniwon, the T-strap pumps are $45 by Call It Spring, and the handbag is $100 from Weston Avenue Boutique. I love the large lapels of this $55 RomWe jacket, and you can finish off the look with gloves (Isotoner, $38), a cuff bracelet ($BaubleBar, $44) and a Zenzi silver necklace for $20. All in all, this look comes together for $374.

I admit it: I deliberately worked Halloween colors into this look. I can’t help it – I love this holiday! The skirt is $63 by Tibi, and I paired it with a simple v-neck top from H&M for $23. The booties are $60 from Nine West (and the foldable flats are just $9.82 by Sidekick!) and the Buxton handbag is $80. I love the leather sleeves on this $26 H&M blazer, and you can finish the look with a $16 Old Navy infinity scarf, a $15 fascinator by AM Clothes and these fabulous earrings for $12 by River Island. This whole look adds up to $304.82 from top to toe.

Pastels for fall were all over the 2015 autumn runways, and I love this take on the look with the $57 Black Five trench. I added a $77 Lavand sweater dress in navy, some dove grey Steve Madden boots for $51 and a $62 felt fedora from the San Diego Trading Company. Accessorize with a chic multi-color handbag for $91 by River Island, a pair of hoops for $32 and a $49 Stella and Dot ring, and you’re Breeders’ Cup ready for $419.
SHOW

I love this windowpane dress for $38 by Connected; the burgundy pumps are $25 from the Windsor Store and the handbag (which looks so luxe) is $26 by LucLuc. The Black Five coat for $40 is seasonally perfect and on-trend with the oversized collar, and the cloche hat ($24, Adora) is wonderful for fall racing. The chevron pendant necklace is $25 from Lady Lux, the oversized watch is $22 by Junior BP and the gloves are a $12 H&M pair. Finish everything off with a swipe of classic red lipstick ($8.59, Revlon) and a few layers of nail polish ($8, Crabtree & Evelyn) and you’re good to go for just $190.59.

This wonderful miniskirt ($18, SheIn) with its stylistic leaves motif; add a silky Zara blouse for $40, a multistrand necklace ($26, Wallace Fashion) and black blazer with leather sleeves for $36 from Chic Nova. I love these merlot booties for $42 by CiCi Hot, but you may want to tuck a pair of $9.82 Sidekick foldable flats to make sure you stay comfortable! Round the look off with a neutral clutch ($34, Accessorize) and a wool hat for $31 by H&M; the wood, stone and gold ring ($16, Accessorize) harkens back to the woodsy feel of the skirt. The whole look can be yours for $252.82!

I need this $28 cape coat by Rotita; it’s so stylish and unexpected. I layered it over a $32 sweater dress by Pink Queen and a pair of olive pumps for $25 by Windsor Store. The chic little handbag is just $25 by Forever21, as are the $13 quilted gloves. You need a cool lid for the Breeders’ Cup, and this $33 fascinator by NYfashion101 definitely fits that bill. The understated earrings for $25 by Vince Camuto will accentuate the outfit without overwhelming the fascinator, and a bit of plummy lip color (NYX, $6.50) will offset the green of the coat nicely. All together, this look will have you looking good for the World Championships for only $187.50!
