Pretty N Cool at Del Mar.

Pretty N Cool, winner of the grade II Sorrento Stakes in August and runner-up to Songbird in the Del Mar Debutante (gr. I) in September, ships east for the Oct. 18 Matron Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park. The $200,000 race for juvenile fillies will be run at six furlongs.

Bob Baffert trains Pretty N Cool for the successful trio of Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman. They picked up the Nancy Shuford-bred daughter of Scat Daddy   for $160,000 at last year's Keeneland September yearling sale. Pretty N Cool is one of six Scat Daddy juveniles that have won graded stakes so far this year.

Pretty N Cool made three starts at Del Mar this summer. She broke her maiden at first asking, winning a five-furlong heat by 41/2 lengths. She then won the 6 1/2-furlong Sorrento by 2 3/4 lengths at 2-5, then ran second to runaway Songbird in the seven-furlong Debutante. Songbird figures to be the favorite for the Oct. 31 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I).

Several locals figure to be up to the test.

Siena Farm's homebred Island Saint has been favored in both of her starts this year, a maiden win in the slop at Saratoga Race Course and a third-place finish in Monmouth Park's Sorority Stakes at the Matron trip on a fast surface. The daughter of Speightstown   is out of the Iowa Oaks (gr. III)-winning Prospective Saint, by Saint Ballado. She's one of two in the six-horse field trained by Todd Pletcher.

The other is StarLadies Racing's Tonasah, a Malibu Moon   filly with one win from three starts. After breaking her maiden at Belmont in June she was second ot Just Wicked in the 6 1/2-furlong Adirondack Stakes (gr. II), then faded late after setting the pace in the seven-furlong Spinaway Stakes (gr. I).

LNJ Foxwoods' Constellation was impressive in her Saratoga maiden-breaker Aug. 9 and was third in the Spinaway. The WinStar Farm-bred daughter of Bellamy Road   was an $800,000 purchase this spring at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. March sale.

Breaking from the outside is Godolphin Racing's Libreta, by first-year sire Girolamo   out of Enrichment, by Ghostzapper  . Enrichment is a full sister to two-time grade I winner Better Lucky. Libreta was a wire-to-wire maiden winner second time out, posting a 93 Equibase Speed Figure, the second highest in the Matron field.
