Lovelyn Denies Dylan Mouth at San Siro

Description:
Gestut Ittlingen's Oaks d'Italia (Ity-II) winner Lovelyn stepped up to the group I level and defeated older males in the Grand Premio del Jockey Club Oct. 18 at San Siro in Milan, Italy.

Wearing down multiple group I winner Dylan Mouth, who on a thoroughly drenched turf course was trying to lead all the way for a repeat win, Lovelyn overtook that tiring rival approaching the final furlong and shook clear to a three-length triumph. Ridden by Andrasch Starke for trainer Peter Schiergen, Lovelyn was timed in 2:38.80 for 2,400 meters (about 1 1/2 miles) on turf rated as heavy.

A daughter of Tiger Hill, Lovelyn won the Grosser-Hansa-Preis (Ger-II) June 28 at Hamburg following her Oaks win. In her only race since, she was ninth in the German Oaks (Ger-I) Aug. 2 at Dusseldorf.

Duca Di Mantova finished third, 2 3/4 lengths behind Dylan Mouth, while Italian group I winner and race favorite Cleo Fan was last in the eight-horse field.

Lovelyn has 4-1-0 record from six career starts. Her dam, the winning Acatenango mare Laurella, is a full sister to German champion, classic winner, and sire Lando, and a half sister to German classic winner and sire Laroche.
