Cactus Kid wins the Ontario Fashion Stakes Oct. 18.

Last into the stretch, Cactus Kris unleashed a thrilling burst of acceleration and swept past eight rivals in $150,000 Ontario Fashion Stakes (Can-III) before nailing front-runner Endless Light in the final stride to win Oct. 18 at Woodbine.

Guided by Huber Villa-Gomez for trainer Ryan Walsh, Cactus Kris won by a neck and finished six furlongs on the all-weather track in 1:10 while notching her first graded win for owner Anne Walsh. Tahnee led early pursued by Endless Light, who took charge in the final furlong before a heart-breaking loss.

A Kentucky-bred 4-year-old daughter of Cactus Ridge—Highest Ground, by Lemon Drop Kid  , Cactus Kris has a 6-5-3 record from 17 career starts that include wins in the listed Satin and Lace Stakes in June at Presque Isle Downs & Casino and the 2014 Ruling Angel Stakes at Woodbine.

Anne Walsh bought the filly, bred by James Paliafito and Tom Keegan, for $30,000 from Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, agent, at the 2012 Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale, where Taylor Made Sales Agency consigned.

Cactus Kris returned $12.20, $4.80, and $3.40 and Endless Light paid $3.20 and $2.70. Scotty's Model returned $5 to show.

Skylander Girl was fourth, followed by Unspurned, Tahnee, Harp N Halo, and Gal About Town to complete the order of finish.
