Champion Judy the Beauty tuned up for the defense of her title in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (gr. I) by working five furlongs in company in 1:01 4/5 at Keeneland Oct. 19.
With Kieren Fallon aboard, the 2014 Eclipse Award winner as champion female sprinter started two lengths in back of Kitten's Top Cat and finished a length in front with fractions of :13 3/5, :25 3/5, and :37 3/5; she galloped out six furlongs in 1:16 4/5.
"I was really happy with it," owner-trainer Wesley Ward said of the 6-year-old mare who most recently finished third in the grade II Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes. "She just raced and I didn't want her to do too much."
The TCA won by Fioretti marked the first time Judy the Beauty had lost in five Keeneland starts that included victories in the 2013 TCA and the 2014 Madison Stakes (gr. I).
"She will do the same thing next week," Ward said, noting the mare's final work. "We're here and ready."
