Meadowlands Proposes a Few Dual-Breed Cards

Description:

Meadowlands in New Jersey hopes to adjust its racing schedule for 2016 and in turn allow for dual-breed programs in September.

Track officials said they will ask the New Jersey Racing Commission for permission to offer live harness racing three weekends next September. The Friday dates would be blended cards with Thoroughbreds racing on the grass and Standardbreds on the main track as part of the same program.

Meadowlands began this year's all-turf Thoroughbred meet, held under the direction of Darby Development, which operates Monmouth Park, in early October. Its harness meet traditionally ends in early August and returns in November.

Its request for dates calls for racing Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. for all meets. Officials also said the fall meet could begin earlier than mid-November.

The next NJRC meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18.
