Big Chief Racing's Exaggerator, pointed to the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I), worked earlier than planned the morning of Oct. 24 at Keeneland—but it paid off, according to trainer Keith Desormeaux.
The Curlin colt worked five furlongs in a quick :59 2/5 and galloped out six furlongs in 1:13 3/5. His early splits were :12 1/5, :24 1/5, and :36.
Rain began falling early in the morning in Lexington, but the racing surface wasn't impacted for earlier works.
"We were stressed about the rain, so we got out there early," said Desormeaux, who won last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile with Texas Red. "It was a spectacular work. He was nice and settled for the first part and galloped out great. I can't be happier."
Exaggerator won the Saratoga Special (gr. II) at 6 1/2 furlongs in August, and returned to finish a strong second in the Oct. 3 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (gr. I) at Keeneland behind Brody's Cause, who also is pre-entered in the Juvenile.
