Taris' final timed workout at Santa Anita Park before shipping to Keeneland for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I) was impressive enough on paper, a bullet five furlongs in :59 flat, the fastest of 84 at the distance the morning of Oct. 24.

But the time had a greater impact on those who watched the breeze with Gary Stevens aboard.

"We were expecting about a minute," trainer Simon Callaghan said, "but it seemed like she just did it on her own."

The 4-year-old Flatter   filly was also flattered by the company of workers who drilled at the distance Saturday morning. Among them were graded I winners Hoppertunity (1:00 2/5), Big Macher (1:01 3/5), and Wild Dude (1:03 1/5), along with graded victors No Silent (1:01 1/5), Majestic City (1:02 1/5), Avanzare (1:03 1/5), and Customer Base (1:04 4/5).

"It was good, because she did it the right way," Callaghan said.

Fellow expected Breeders' Cup runners Swipe (1:01 1/5) and Right There (1:03 flat) also worked five furlongs for trainer Keith Desormeaux.

The only other workers who ran five furlongs under a minute were Little Jerry and Ground Rules. Both finished in :59 4/5.
